Opening My First Solo Sculpture Exhibition

Well, life of late has been extremely busy! As well as working on new pieces, I held an open day at my workshop and my first solo sculpture exhibition opens on Monday 10th June!
It’s hard to believe that in so many years as a full-time artist that this is my first solo exhibition – but there it is!
The opportunity to share my pieces is always exciting. And there’s always the hope some will sell too! There are also some details behind this exhibition I find interesting though that connect community, art, the environment, and tourism…

Before I go any further, let me share some details about the exhibition.

The exhibition runs Monday 10th – Sunday 23rd June and is open every day from 12pm – 8pm. The location is the beautiful Ebenezer in Cefn Mawr – you can find it on google maps HERE.

As well as exhibiting sculptures, I’ll also be showing some of my wall panels. Many of the pieces are for sale so if you’re on the lookout for something to enhance your home, garden, workplace or a community space, come ready to shop!

Now for a little bit of the story behind the exhibition…

The Ebenezer is a former baptist chapel located in Cefn Mawr, just outside Wrexham. It’s a small village but home to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct – a world heritage site. The chapel was converted to a community centre in 2008 but closed again in 2013.

It was taken over in 2021 and reopened as part of a vision to make Cefn Mawr a place that visitors would not just pass through to see the famous aqueduct. Rather, they would spend time in the village which would not only boost the economy, but also contribute to reducing pollution in Cefn Mawr.

So how did my exhibition come about?

We were at a networking event (if you’ve read my blog about tips for artists starting their business, you’ll know the importance) and Dave Metcalfe, (owner of The Ebenezer and nearby Holly Bush pub) approached me.
Part of his vision for The Ebenezer is making it a space for music and the arts. As locals, Liz and I want to get more involved with the community and this seemed a great way to start.

A quick walk through my solo sculpture exhibition at The Ebenezer, Cefn Mawr

Being my first solo exhibition, there are lots of things we’ve learned as we’ve set up. I’ll share a bit more in the next blog, so if you’re thinking of exhibiting soon, watch out for that.

We really hope this exhibition will be a success. I love the idea of promoting Cefn Mawr as more of a destination for culture and tourism. We’ve lived there for nearly nine years and love it. It’s got a great community feel in spite of being quite deprived.

If you’re in the North Wales or North West in the next two weeks, do come along. We’re looking forward to seeing you!

PS If you fancy one of the sculptures in the walk through but can’t manage to get to North Wales don’t worry! You can view and purchase them (and much more) through my shop:
